From Forgetfulness to Remembrance
Forgetfulness → Remembrance
You are here. Allah's guidance reaches you here.
Qur'an
وَلَا تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ نَسُوا اللَّهَ فَأَنسَاهُمْ أَنفُسَهُمْ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ
“Do not be like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget themselves. They are the defiantly disobedient.”
Sūrat al-Ḥashr 59:19
Personal Reflection
Distance is rarely a journey away; it is usually a slow forgetting. And forgetting is undone by a single act of remembrance. The verse sets no threshold — no length of absence to be repaid first. Your dhikr and His dhikr of you are placed side by side in one short sentence. The door was never locked. You simply stopped looking at it.
This is the author's own contemplation. It is not tafsīr.
Insight from Tafsīr al-Mīzān
ʿAllāmah Ṭabāṭabāʾī explains that forgetting Allah does not diminish Allah — it diminishes the person. When someone turns away from Allah, they gradually lose sight of their own true nature, purpose, and ultimate good. As a result, they no longer recognize what truly benefits or harms their soul.
The Qur'an therefore presents remembrance (dhikr) not merely as an act of worship, but as a way of returning to one's true self through remembering Allah.

almizan.orgGuidance from the Ahlulbayt
“The hearts are in four states: elevation, openness, lowering, and stoppage. The elevation of the heart is in the remembrance (dhikr) of Allah. Its openness is in being pleased with Allah. Its lowering is in being occupied with other than Allah. Its stoppage is in heedlessness (ghaflah) of Allah.”

Du'a
“Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Yourself. Indeed, You are the Bestower.”
Sūrat Āl ʿImrān 3:8
One step forward
Pause once today before reaching for your phone. Instead, quietly say: al-ḥamd li-Llāh. Then remember one blessing Allah has given you today before continuing with your day.
