قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِن رَّحْمَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
“Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, He is the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.'”

Personal Reflection
Despair is the quiet claim that your wound is larger than His mercy. The verse refuses that arithmetic. It is addressed to those who have wronged themselves the most — 'O My servants', still called servants, still called 'My'. Mercy in the Qur'an is not a wage paid to the deserving; it is the nature of the One who gives. This verse was revealed for someone standing exactly where you are.
This is the author's own contemplation. It is not tafsīr.
Insight from Tafsīr al-Mīzān
ʿAllāmah Ṭabāṭabāʾī explains that Allah begins this verse with a call of mercy: 'O My servants...' Even those who have greatly wronged themselves are still addressed as His servants, showing that the door to return remains open.
The verse describes sin as something a person commits against their own soul, not against Allah. His mercy is not diminished by human wrongdoing. Rather, He invites every servant not to despair, but to return with hope and repentance.
True hope is therefore not based on overlooking sin, but on recognizing the vastness of Allah's mercy and sincerely turning back to Him.

He then said: 'Whenever a believer returns with repentance and seeks forgiveness, Allah returns to him with forgiveness... So never cause the believers to lose hope in the mercy of Allah.'”

Du'a
رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
“Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.”
