اللَّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُخْرِجُهُم مِّنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ ۖ وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَوْلِيَاؤُهُمُ الطَّاغُوتُ يُخْرِجُونَهُم مِّنَ النُّورِ إِلَى الظُّلُمَاتِ
“Allah is the Guardian of those who believe. He brings them out of the darknesses into the light. As for those who disbelieve, their guardians are false powers, who bring them out of the light into the darknesses…”
Sūrat al-Baqara 2:257
Personal Reflection
The Qur'an speaks of darknesses in the plural and light in the singular. Confusion has many rooms; truth has one. And the verb belongs to Allah — He brings them out. You are not asked to manufacture light, only to remain turned toward the One who is its source. Whoever has a guardian is never simply lost in the dark; they are being led through it.
This is the author's own contemplation. It is not tafsīr.
Insight from Tafsīr al-Mīzān
ʿAllāmah Ṭabāṭabāʾī explains that the Qur'an speaks of darknesses in the plural because there are many ways a person can become distant from the truth — ignorance, heedlessness, falsehood, and everything that veils the heart from Allah.
By contrast, light is singular because truth is one. Allah, as the Guardian (Walī) of the believers, brings them from every form of darkness toward the one light of Divine guidance.
This journey is not merely from sadness to happiness, but from every veil that obscures the heart to the clarity that comes through Allah's guidance.

Du'a
رَبَّنَا أَتْمِمْ لَنَا نُورَنَا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
“Our Lord, perfect our light for us and forgive us. Surely You are Powerful over all things.”
